The city of Stuart is located in Martin County on Florida's Treasure Coast. Its population as of 2004 is 15,728.
Education
Within Stuart city limits, Martin County High School can be found. Martin County School District which serves Stuart with 17 public elementary, middle and high schools with several pre-K programs and 2 charter schools. A total of 27 public and private schools are located in Martin County. Several trade and technical schools are found in the city of Stuart. Other colleges and universities near Stuart include Indian River Community College and Barry University.
Attractions
One of Martin County's most delightful attraction is Stuart's meticulously restored historic downtown district. This bit of town comes with its own self-guided walking tour. Stuart houses the Elliot Museum, which is full of American antiques, textiles, vintage automobiles and baseball memorabilia. Stuart also has the House of Refuge at Gilbert's Bar, a national historical landmark featuring marine artifacts from the 1500s and maritime exhibits. The Martin County Fairgrounds which provides all sorts of entertainment and activities throughout the year. Of course, the beaches nearby are also a great attraction for all as many water activities happen along Florida's Treasure Coast.
Culture
Florida's old legacy lives on in Martin County where dance, music, visual arts, theatre and history are an essential part of the community. Many fun and enlightening arts and cultural events and festivals are held throughout the year. Many music and art societies exist across the county, including Stuart's Lyric Theatre which, for nearly a century, has brought entertainment to the Treasure coast in forms of various concerts, cultural events and silent movies, attracting more than 80,000 people annually. Stuart also has its own museum which showcases the history and architecture of Stuart and the Martin County area.
