Recreation The city of Port St. Lucie holds a variety community events including the Kids' Fishing Tournament in August for children to compete to win prizes. The city also has a Fall Festival held at Tradition Field full of rides, music and crafts. During October at Lyngate Park, German tradition is celebrated during Oktoberfest, a weekend event with authentic flavors and festivities. Every third Saturday of the month, the city also holds a community garage sale for neighbors to trade and sell goods. Many other programs and activities like these take place throughout the year. At the various city parks, summer classes, sports, camps and special events are also offered by the city. Other recreational activities are abundant including resorting to the nearby beaches for water activities and golf, of course, as Port St. Lucie is the home of the PGA Golf Professional Hall of Fame.
Art and Culture St. Lucie County is home to the famed Florida painter A. E. Backus, whose artwork is on display at the A. E. “Bean” Backus Gallery & Museum. Also, the county's rich history can be explored at the St. Lucie County Historical Museum. Also, the Navy UDT-SEAL Museum is the only museum in the world dedicated to the Naval Special Warfare. In the county also, is the Hallstrom Planetarium, which draws many visitors.
Education St. Lucie County School District serves Port St. Lucie with a handful of public schools for grade school children. Colleges and universities in the city include Keiser University and branches for Florida Atlantic University and Indian River Community College.
